Thallo vs Finary

Finary is a wealth app priced in euros. It syncs your banks and brokers, tracks profit and loss on each investment, follows dividends, runs budgets, scans your products for fees, and lets you invest through the app.

Thallo is a net worth tracker. You add every account you have, each in its own currency, and keep the balances up to date. Thallo then shows your total in the currency you choose, how it's changing and what changed it. It suits you if you'd like to see your total in a currency like DKK or THB, and if understanding that total matters more to you than budgets or dividend tracking.

What changed your total

Pick any two dates and What moved splits the change into currency effect and balance changes, for each account and each currency. For example, say you live in Bangkok with THB as your display currency and keep EUR 20,000 in a French savings account. If the euro rises from THB 38.0 to THB 39.0, that adds THB 20,000 to your total. What moved shows it as currency effect, so you don't mistake it for money you saved. (Illustrative numbers.)

How current your numbers are

You choose how often each account should be updated, from weekly to yearly, and each one shows when you last did it. The overview gives the share of your total that's up to date, for example 86%. Once a week, Signals gives you a short list of things worth a look. That might be a car whose value hasn't changed in 12 months, or two accounts that moved in opposite directions.

You enter the balances yourself on a single screen, with the last figure shown next to each account, so Thallo never needs a bank login.

Accounts you can track

Thallo has 14 account types. Besides bank, brokerage, pension and crypto accounts, they include private credit, deposits, vehicles, property and art, as well as loans, mortgages and credit cards. Anything without a statement can go in with your own estimate, marked ≈. Closing or archiving an account keeps its history.

How Finary handles currencies

Finary's help centre says your whole account has one display currency, chosen from EUR, USD, CHF, GBP, SGD and CAD, with BTC or ETH available on Plus. When you add a loan or a property, it uses the account's currency.

What Finary offers

Finary says Plus gives you unlimited access to 20,000 banks and brokerage platforms, and Lite and above link as many accounts as you like. The free plan links two, where one login at one institution counts as one.

It goes inside your investments, with profit and loss per holding, a dividend calendar, breakdowns by country, region and sector, and a fee scanner that looks for expensive products. Plus adds budget and cash flow tools, and Finary also has family mode and investing through the app. The free plan is free forever, and there are apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac.

None of that is in Thallo, which runs in the browser and is free only during early access. If you use Finary for budgeting or dividends, it makes sense to keep it for that.

Moving from Finary

Write down each account's balance at a few past month-ends in the account's own currency, not the converted one. Put those into the net worth spreadsheet template and import it when you sign up. The file itself stays on your device, and only the accounts and balances you confirm are saved.

Questions

Is Finary free?

There's a free plan with two linked accounts. Finary's help centre doesn't say whether manually added assets are limited on it. Budgeting and the dividend tracker need Plus, at EUR 149.99 a year.

Can I use Thallo outside Europe?

Yes. You enter the balances yourself, so it works the same wherever your accounts are, and each one can be in its own currency.

You can start free and see your total in the currency you live in.
